124_Simple Build Aachen
CONCEPT & IDEA
Two new buildings are proposed for the state competition for student housing on the site between Rochusstraße and Seilgraben in Aachen. The urban volume of the two buildings will be developed on Rochusstraße and arranged on the site in a rotated arrangement according to the principle of “simple construction”. This creates two identical structures. Both structures are accessed through a joint resulting from the geometry and are divided into a simple “city side” and a playful “garden side” with balconies and pergola access as a simple shelf structure.
The construction follows the principle of “simple building”, which focuses on simple, natural and foil-free constructions. The components are stacked to avoid complex alignments and connections. Composite materials are not used due to their lack of circularity. The components are mechanically connected to each other to enable easy disassembly according to the “design for disassembly” principle. A high degree of prefabrication is taken into account in the planning. The components are to be assembled as prefabricated parts in order to achieve a better quality of execution and a more economical construction method
