rundzwei architects is planing a storage and office building for the company Hald & Grunewald. The complex consists of a 10 m high shed and an office building which are directly linked and intertwined to form one compact volume.
The 2nd floor of the office part lays on top of the compact volume cantilevering to either side.
A canopy which runs around the full length of the shed part is used to combine both volumes. The grid facade, made from carbonated larch wood, changes upwards to the cantilevering office part and dissolves slightly. Those horizontal timer elements change in depth thus sun-shading the upper facade to reduce the heat gain during summer for the office functions behind. The contrast of the natural timber facade of the lower volume and the carbonized part above has been carfully chosen.
The complete structure is made out of CLT timber elements which will be insulated to achieve a low energy standard.
A CHP provides heat for the low temperature underfloor heating in shed and office building while also providing a large part of the electricity for the complex.
